Boxing clever with Dave Earle in Banbury

Dave Earle, Boxer

Banbury is home to former champion boxer and kickboxer, Dave Earle who runs Spit’n’Sawdust Boxing Gym. We caught up with him ahead of his talk for TEDx Banbury to find out about the benefits of staying active.

“From the age of 11, boxing and kick-boxing have always been a big part of my life. My dad was a boxer and he was a great influence on me. Years on, my interest and life choice, to run a boxing club and gym, is creating a difference in other people’s lives, from all different walks of life.

I’ve worked with people with addictions, anxieties, social issues such as poverty, racism, a sense of not belonging, homelessness, hunger, low job prospects and spectrum orders such as ADHD (don’t call it a disorder, let’s be positive!)

Taking part in a different or new physical activity, like boxing or yoga, puts people in a better place psychologically to face their situations, whatever they may be. My advice is, get out there, joining a gym or try something new.

Physical activity of any kind can help change your state of mind.”

See Dave at TEDx Banbury

Dave will be speaking at TEDx Banbury on Saturday the 29th of February 2020. His gym, Spit’n’Sawdust, is known for the positive role it provides, particularly it’s success in reshaping the lives of youths with ‘social issues’. In fact, he voted the Leader/Volunteer of the year at the Cherwell Sports Awards in 2012. Dave’s work bestowed him the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch for the London 2012 Olympic Games. His talk will be inspirational!
