About the Project
‘Pete Stays Home’ is a 2020 picture book by Oxfordshire Author Karra Macfarlane, which tells the story of a bear who must hibernate through the winter with his mother. Pete cannot leave his cave and misses seeing his friends and grandparents. The story, adapted into an interactive musical by CTC in 2021, enables children and adults to have open and honest conversations about their recent experiences, seen through Pete’s perspective.
The interactive theatre project was devised and produced collaboratively over several weeks with a professional cast and creative team, 22 students aged 16-18 and 33 young people aged 11-25. A filmmaker followed every stage of our journey, documenting the creative and challenging process of developing the show – a story about lockdown, during lockdown and beyond.
In July 2021, the show was finally able to go out on the road with a Covid-safe, outdoor schools tour and a number of outdoor performances at People’s Park. Pete Stays Home will also be touring Cherwell District schools this Autumn and stage performances booked in theatres across the South East and the Midlands including The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury; The North Wall Arts Centre, Oxford, South Holland Centre in Lincolnshire and South Hill Park in Bracknell. More information on the tour can be found on our WEBSITE
